Hi people. I don't know if this forum's still active(I don't think it is) but oh well, I'll just go ahead and post my fic for any poor soul who wants to read it.

Odd One Out
Chapter One- Naked

The petite girl was a sight to behold. Her milky white skin had a contrast with the midnight dark environment of her room. More specifically, Evan’s room. He’d invited her over, then, being the scatterbrain he always was, forgot that he had to go out with Ashley, and he’d left her here alone. She did say that she would be okay, but of course she wouldn’t. She’d cast a wistful glance at Evan’s back, but he didn’t notice.

She was sitting on Evan’s bed, and she gathered her knees toward her chest in a fetal position. It made her feel safe, like she could hide away from the world in her own shell, unable to be hurt by anything, just safe. Her long blonde locks streaked with black hung down her small back, and aqua marine eyes stared blankly into the space of them room, wishing Evan were beside her. He could always cheer her up, even though she wasn’t in a bad mood, his soft touch would overtake her and make her fall into the most perfect daydream, even though perfection didn’t exist, not even in the wildest dreams.

Yeah I'm fadin
And I call out
No one hears me
Never been never felt never thought I'd say a word
Weighed down safe now

Tears ran down her cheeks, leaving trails of mascara running down her face. She didn’t care how she looked then, she never cared about what anyone thought of her. But lately, for Evan, she found herself dressing up for him, thinking whether he would like her outfit, and spending a bit more time deciding on what to wear, when she usually just threw on whatever she found first in her wardrobe. She didn’t know why she was crying, but she only knew that she wanted to be the one that went out with Evan, the one that he held and loved, the one that he cherished. Unfortunately, they were just friends. She was tired of hearing the phrase ‘just friends’, which was what either of them said when questioned about their relationship, whether by parents, or by any one else. Any one else that cared. But, as they say, the truth hurts, and that was all they were. Just friends.

You're naked inside your fear
You can't take back all those years
The shots in the dark from empty guns
Are never heard by anyone
Never heard by anyone

Here she was, crying her eyes out, while Evan was outside, enjoying himself probably. A scene of them kissing passionately while Evan ran his hands through her hair overtook her sense of logic, and she shut her eyes tightly, hoping to drive away the thoughts. They kept coming on harder and harder, and the kissing scene progressed into something more intimate, until she couldn’t stand it. Their voices were sounding in her head, and they wouldn’t go away.

Yeah I'm hiding
in the fallout
Now I'm wasted
They don't need me don't want me don't hear a word I say
Weighed down safe now

“Shut up and leave me alone!” She yelled, hugging her knees to her chest fiercely.

“I haven’t spoken yet,” a male voice came from behind her.

Shocked, Avril lifted her tearstained face and turned around, her eyes landing on Evan, even though she couldn’t really see him since it was so dark. She was thankful he couldn’t see how she looked then, with streams of eyeliner running down her cheeks.

Inside your head no one's there
And I don't think I'll ever be
And I don't care

“Av, what’s wrong? I heard you crying.” His gentle voice rang through the silence like the clear tone of a bell. Avril refused to answer him and closed her eyes again, quieting her sobs. But Evan refused to give up; he had to know what was bothering her.

You're naked inside your fear
You can't take back all those years
The shots in the dark from empty guns
Are never heard by anyone
By anyone, by anyone

He rested his hand on her shoulder. He placed his lean body on the bed beside her, and gathered up her small body into his comforting arms. She felt more like a child rather than an angst-struck teenager. He thought about how Ashley always wanted to make out and have sex when they were together, and whether their relationship was only made out of lust, not love.

Tightening his grip on Avril’s shivering body, he slowly lay down and pulled the scarlet red comforter over them, and placed a kiss on her forehead. She was peacefully sleeping, and even with the dried trails of make up on her cheeks, he thought she looked like the most beautiful woman on earth. He buried his face in her hair, and thought of how she smelled of pink peppermint, before he fell asleep.

Squinting against the bright sunlight filtering into her room, Avril fully opened her eyes and found that a pair of arms were locked tightly around her waist. She glanced at their owners’ face, and smiled. Her aqua eyes ran over his masculine features and ran her smooth finger over his cheek.

Pure blue eyes sprang open to meet hers. Both were perfectly comfortable in the others’ embrace and to be lying in the same bed, though they weren’t quite lovers. Yet. With the simple understanding both held for each other, each could sense what the other was thinking or feeling- they could easily be mistaken for lovers, and were more that ready to be lovers.

Just that they couldn’t accept it just yet. No words had to be spoken, just glance exchanged and they knew what the other wanted. Each could read the other like a book, the fruit of just a few weeks of friendship. The two had seen each other, clicked, and gained the title of two lone wolves in the class. Although one of them had popularity in the first place, his position in the cruel pecking order had dropped to second last. Right before her. Being besties with the newcomer wasn’t exactly approved of. Whether their friendship ended and blossomed into a sweet romance was yet to be determined.

They didn’t need anyone else. Just the two of them, in their own world, staring into the depths of each others eyes, communicating silently. It was the same as passing notes, but the message could never be intercepted by any outsider. But the world never lets you be happy and contented. Oh no, it wants you to be the exact opposite. Plunged into the depths of sorrows and plagued by disappointment that was harder to get rid of as compared to the stickiest glue. Avril only knew all too well how it was like to be ostracised. And because of her, Evan had to endure the pain too. But his heart wasn’t encased in a million shields like hers was. It wasn’t surrounded with layers and layers of ice that no fire would be able to penetrate. It was raw and red, vulnerable to any form of attack. Those shields around her heart were built up over the years of being taunted and bullied, where she learnt to show no emotion.

It hurt more than the most painful insect bite, more than the grazes on your knee when you fall. Because then, at least, those could be healed with time and medicine, and would sooner or later go away. And all that’s left to remind you of the pain you once endured is only a scar, one that goes mostly unnoticed. But it wasn’t like that. Avril despised school but the one thing she hated the most was project, or group work, or anything that required them to get into groups. There were always one or two people left out in the end, most of them the dorks. She didn’t want to be classified with them. With a hefty sigh from the teacher, he’d group together all of the outcasts, and Avril was left to try her best to make the whole thing work out. But due to the lack of cooperation, they usually got a bad grade. It got a lot easier when she learned how to stop caring. That was in her old school. Now, whenever they had to pick members for teams in sports, or groups for project work, she was still left out. It didn’t help that Evan still got accepted into groups readily. But it stopped hurting. A long time ago, when she stopped counting the number of wrongs everyone did her. It stopped hurting a long time ago.

The stinging pain and stabbing sensation, the roots of fear growing even deep when those dreaded words were heard, and to be standing alone in the middle of the room when everyone else was shifting their tables and chairs to be with their friends. The little cliques gathering everywhere, safe where they were. The hostile glares and humiliation when she asked politely to join a group and when she had to admit that she had no group. The feeling of being alone and not belonging, not fitting in. But worst of all was the look of despair on Evan’s face when he realised he could do nothing for her.

“Av, do you want to join?” No sooner were those six words out of Evan’s mouth, and evil eyes were shot his way. But before she could react, he grabbed her arm, his grip firm, as if he were pulling her up where she’d been hanging from the edge of a cliff. The next day, he showed up with a bruised cheek, which made feelings of guilt well up inside of her.

But recently, Evan had been accepted into one of the highest positions in the class once more and Avril was left ‘down there’, as they say. But that didn’t stop him from hanging out with her, even though he was looked upon with disapproval ever since.

“Odd one out again, huh Lavigne?” Brian, the so called leader of the popular group Evan was in, taunted her with a cruel smirk.

Rolling her eyes, Avril did her best to ignore him, dragging her chair to the group she was assigned to, steeling herself to get through the day, which coincidentally, was filled with project works everywhere, cliques in her face wherever she went. She wanted so bad to belong. To be accepted in a group, where her thoughts, speech, actions and most of all, her being, was wanted and accepted. And most of all, respected.

On the outside, she looked indifferent, her small body charging through every little class, staring into space while the teacher rambled on and on, looking as if she didn’t care whether she got scolded or not. But inside she was so tired. She wanted nothing more than to dive under her covers at home or just drop dead. But she couldn’t. She had Evan now, and she had to live for him. Every time she felt like she’d faint, she’d look at him, drawing strength and the courage to go on from him.

She felt as if he was watching over her every second, and he even made her stop cutting. In all her musings, she’d realised that she was ready to take her relationship with Evan to the next level, but she could help feeling a little bit doubtful. They had only known each other for only a few weeks, surely they couldn’t be ready? But she was prepared to trust him. What about Ashley? Evan couldn’t possibly love her. Avril tried to convince herself that Evan held only lust for Ashley, not love.

Avril’s thoughts whisked back to the present as the teacher announced that it was break time. Stifling a huge sigh, she grabbed her books and exited the classroom, stopping by her locker to deposit her books before making her way up to the library. She headed over to a secluded corner and made herself comfortable, pulling out her i pod, pushing the earphones into her ears. She closed her eyes and allowed the music to wash all over her. Music was her life, and she couldn’t live without it. Her current dilemma about whether she should confess her feelings to Evan popped up in her head again, and she sighed, trying to make it go away.

As if Evan was a genie that could be summoned up with her thoughts, he materialised in front or her, setting himself down next to her.

Evan could hear the loud music from Avril’s earphones. He felt butterflies in his stomach. He so badly wanted to tell her how he felt about her, but was he sure? And what about Ashley? What if she didn’t feel the same way about him?

“Hey Av.” He greeted softly, smiling at her. She returned the gesture, and moved over to lean her head on his shoulder softly, pausing her music and taking the earphone out.

“Uh, I have something to tell you.” They both said simultaneously. Avril and Evan both burst out into genuine laughter. Evan, being the gentleman he always was, demanded for Avril to go first, and much to her protest, she began.

“The thing is, Ev, from the time I met I’ve always felt like I’ve known you for about forever. I really like-” Her declaration was interrupted by someone quite unwelcome.

Chapter 2- Lucky

“Hey Ev!” Ashley cried, ignoring the glare of the librarian nearby. Her long, spidery like arms wrapped around Evan’s neck, her head leaning down to nibble teasingly at Evan’s earlobe. “I missed you so much, baby!” She said with such sweetness that it could have made a cat sick.

“Hey Ash.” Evan answered more quietly, deflated. Why did Ashley have to show up now? He was so close, so close to hearing what Avril felt for him. He thought he had heard the word ‘like’, but it could have meant ‘ I really like our friendship, but we shouldn’t take it any further.’ Evan sighed. Ashley was rambling on and on about what an amazing time they had had the previous night, but Evan’s attention was on Avril, her hurt expression.

Avril was fuming. How dare this Ashley girl just come barging into their conversation? She was just about to confess her feelings to Evan! Her eyes, lined with hurt and anger, took in the sight of Ashley flirting endlessly with Evan, running her teeth along his neck. The hurt only increased ten-fold when she heard Ashley calling Evan by his Nickname, and Evan calling her by her nickname. Tears flooded her eyes, and she looked away, not wanting Evan to see her tears.

“…wanna come to my house to chill tonight Ev?” Ashley asked, looking pointedly at Avril. Both musing parties snapped to attention at the question, and an awkward silence hung in the air before Evan spoke up.
Evan, suddenly more angered than ever at Ashley’s intrusion into their private conversation, brushed her off impatiently.

“No, I’m not going. Let me make this perfectly clear, Ashley. We’re over.” Evan stated firmly and grabbed Avril’s small hand in his, standing up and leading her back to class.

Avril pulled her hand from his when they were standing outside their class, and Evan sighed. They both parted ways into their next class, which they weren’t sharing. Evan knew he couldn’t just leave this hanging, but he didn’t know how to make this right either.

Avril entered her classroom and sat down, leaning her chin on her hands, analysing what had just happened to her. Did Evan just actually break up with Ashley, or had she just been imagining it? At least Evan wasn’t in her class, staring at her with his burning blue eyes. An hour seemed to pass to quickly, leaving her to go to her last class of the day, Algebra, which was also one of the classes she shared with Evan.

Hesitance evident in her every step, she made her way to Mrs See’s class. Entering it, she breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Evan wasn’t there yet, and she took a seat in the back rows. About five minutes later, Evan came in, and took the seat next to Avril, giving her a heart warming smile.

Mrs See, famous for her tough pair works, asked them to get into pairs to work on an algebra worksheet she had just handed out, and Evan lost no time in pairing up with Avril. He tried to read her face, which he found he always could, but found that it was the first time that he couldn’t.

Avril was nervous, trying to figure out how to act around Evan. She knew he could read her like she was an open book, and was having a hard time trying not to be too transparent. Things had never been so weird with them before. Her hand trembling slightly, she took the algebra worksheet and decided to come clean with Evan. She could never concentrate on such an abstract subject like Algebra if she had Evan on her mind. Her hand jerked suddenly, pushing her pencil case over the edge of her desk to the floor, its contents spilling out all over the floor.

Evan smiled when her pencil case crashed to the floor. He could see through her every move, and he could see that she did it on purpose. Leaning down, he gathered up everything and slid them back into her pencil case, placing it on the desk in front of Avril. He flashed one of his sweet smiles and caressed her cheek gently.

“Thanks Ev.” Avril smiled and bumped her bare leg against his jean covered one, and playfulness was clear on her face.

Evan knew she didn’t just mean him picking up her stuff for her, but for everything else that he had done for her, and that they were okay again. Not even a word had to be exchanged for the other to know. He picked up the signal from her, and felt her bare leg nudging against his, and his hand lingered on her thigh, rubbing up and down.

The two spent Algebra flirting with each other, and whenever one tried to concentrate on the question, they would be distracted by the other. And when the dismissal bell rang, neither of them had written a thing.

I knew how it felt to be
Another one in need
Of someone to show the way
Until you saw a part of me
That nobody else could see
And my life hasn’t been the same…

Her hand securely in Evan’s, the pair walked out of class into the bustling hallway of their school, filled with cliques everywhere again. Evan leaned her up against a locker and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. Avril smiled and ran her hand down his chest, stopping at his belt buckle.

“Quit flirting and just fuck her, Taubenfeld!” Brian called out, and that was followed with a few snickers.

Ignoring them, Evan placed a sweet kiss on Avril’s forehead.

“Come to my house to hang, Av? My parents are gone for the week and my brother and sister probably won’t bother us.” Evan waggled his eyebrows suggestively.

Avril raised her own. “What exactly are you hinting at, Mr Taubenfeld?”

“Nothing! Let’s get out of here,” Evan changed the subject playfully. Together, they made their way out of the school to his house, which was only a short walk away. When you lived in Nappanee, you didn’t need a car to go anywhere, practically everything was in walking distance.

Evan was thinking about what could have caused Avril to forgive him, but he just had to look at her face to know that it was for real. It was just their magic working again.

“Let’s go to your room,” Avril suggested when they got to his house. Evan nodded, and with a sweeping gesture, carried her up the stair wedding style. His fingers, positioned at Avril’s waist, moved slightly, tickling her and making her squirm around in his arms. Evan broke into a run and entered his room.

You make me feel as lucky as I can be…
You make me feel as lucky as I can be…

“Ev, stop it!” Avril cried as Evan laid her back onto his double bed and straddled her, still moving his fingers rapidly along her tiny waist. Evan did as she asked, and tentatively leaned down to press his lips on hers, his arms wrapping around her waist protectively. Avril’s body relaxed in his arms, and she savoured how Evan tasted. Both had waited so long to taste each other. Reluctantly, both pulled apart for much needed oxygen, each looking into the other’s eyes, feeling something they had never felt before this. Letting his fingers trail lightly over Avril’s ribs, he sat up, pulling her into his lap. Avril circled her legs round Evan’s wait and leaned her head on his chest, listening for his heartbeat, strong and firm. It was something she could always rely on.

Before I couldn’t get a break
Never had a chance to make
The impressions I want to
But now it falls into place
When I get to see your face
Then there’s nothing that I can’t do…

Evan lay back against the pillows, and automatically, Avril’s head rested on his chest. Her eyelids closed and she dozed lightly.

“Av… what about watching a movie?”

“Mmhmm. I’m too lazy to get up.”

The ring of Avril’s phone broke the contented silence that followed. Avril groaned and reluctantly got up from the bed, exiting Evan’s room to answer the call.

Evan watched Avril leave the room. He felt as if he could do anything when he had her by his side, he felt unbeatable. Like a butterfly emerging from its cocoon after months of darkness, uncertainty.

No more dark days, only sun rays
No more hard ways with you today

He felt a sudden weight on top of him, and opened his eyes to find Avril burning her eyes into his.

“Aww Ev, did you have to spoil the moment?”

“Whatever. Anyway, was that call anything important?”

“Yeah, it kind of was. My mom is going somewhere for the week, and Dad’s working, so she wants me to come stay over at your house for the week. I thought it would be okay, so I said yes straightaway. It is okay isn’t it?”

“Of course it is. Let me walk you over to your house to get your stuff.” Evan smiled, always the perfect gentleman.

A while later, they arrived at Avril’s house. Avril’s mom was delighted to see Evan, as she always was. Avril ran up to her room to pack what she needed while Evan stayed downstairs, admiring photos of her when she was young.

“Hey Ev. What are you looking at?” Avril asked as she made her way down with her bags.

Smiling, Evan stepped aside to show her the picture he was looking at. It was a picture of Avril when she was really little, holding and licking an ice cream cone, with naturally, ice cream all over her chubby cheeks, even some in her blonde hair which was tied up into two pigtails. Ah, those were the days where she could sleep without having to fear what tomorrow brought, didn’t have to worry about being left all alone, and get through the day without having her self esteem torn to shreds.

She was brought back into the present by her mom, who was announcing a list of rules for them. Avril rolled her eyes. As if she was ever going to follow them.

“I trust that you two aren’t going to take things too fast, now that you’re a couple?”

Avril perked up. How did her mom know they were a couple? She didn’t remember announcing it. They hadn’t held hands or kissed in front of her, so how did she find out? Her mom was still waiting for an answer, so Evan spoke up.

“We won’t Mrs Lavigne.” He flashed on of his reassuring smiles, and Avril didn’t have to look at her mother to know that she was falling even deeper in love with Evan. All the qualities that mothers craved for in son-in-laws floated to Evan.

“Oh mom, how did you know that we were a couple?”

“It’s so obvious. Anyone can see it from a mile away.” She replied and left, leaving Avril and Evan standing in the middle of the room, staring at each other.

Chapter 3 – You and Me

Avril watched Evan struggle to get her bags out the door as they began the walk back to his house. She absolutely loved how gentlemanly he was and she doubted she could find any guy like him. She threw a careless glance in his direction, and wished she hadn’t. His blonde hair stuck to his neck, and the muscles on his arms were showing as he lifted her bags.

What day is it
And in what month
This clock never seemed so alive
I can't keep up and I can't back down
I've been losing so much time

“Av, did you pack, like, your whole house or something?” Evan quipped, bringing Avril out of her daydream.

“No. Don’t worry Ev, no one has as many hair products as you do! Besides, my house is standing right here!” Avril teased back, skipping a few paces forward when he tried to make a grab at her, but couldn’t because of all the bags he was laden with. Evan started to run after her, and crazy laughter could be heard. Avril always made sure she was just in reach of him, but not close enough to be caught.

Evan put her bags down at his door and got his key out to open it, and Avril ran inside before he had a chance to catch her. Figuring he’d catch her later, he jogged up the steps to leave her bags in his room.

Avril ducked into the basement before Evan could see her, and gasped when she saw it was actually a music room. It had a grand piano in one corner, and a whole range of guitars, from electrics to acoustics to classicals. A drum set was also stationed in the middle of the room, and amps were in another corner. Avril had no idea that Evan was this rich, or that he was so musically inclined. A black acoustic that was set apart from the rest caught her eye, and she lifted it gently off its stand. She set herself down on one of the amps, and began to play softly, forgetting that sound could travel.

Cause it's you and me and all other people
With nothing to do, nothing to prove
And it's you and me and all of the people and
I don't know why I can't keep my eyes off of you

Evan made his way into the living room and surveyed it, making sure to check all of the little corners and nooks for Avril, but she wasn’t here. He was just about to go into the kitchen to look for her when he heard the strum of his black acoustic, a sound he knew all too well, and Avril’s voice singing softly, though he couldn’t quite make out the words or the song she was singing.

He crept down into the basement and pushed open the door, praying hard that it wouldn’t creak. It didn’t, and he slipped inside, but not before making sure that Avril’s back was to the door. She was perched on one of his many amplifiers, and holding his treasured black acoustic. That was his favourite guitar out of the many that his family owned. Avril was strumming and singing the words to a song he didn’t recognize.

I don’t want to fall to pieces
I just wanna sit and stare at you
I don’t wanna talk about it
I don’t want a conversation
I just wanna cry in front of you
‘Cause I’m in love with you

The chords replayed themselves again, as Avril tried to get every note perfect. This was his Avril, the perfectionist, as he knew from writing with her for so many nights. She would sneak over to his house or him to hers and they’d write together, always trying not to make too much noise.

Coming back to the present, he saw that Avril was turning one of the knobs on his guitar, and took the opportunity. He padded softly up behind her.

“Hey.” He said, and Avril jumped up.

“How… how long have you been here?” Avril asked, embarrassed over the fact that he had heard her singing.
All of the things that I want to say
Just aren't coming out right
I'm tripping on words, you got my head spinning
I don't know where to go from here

“Long enough.” He said and a teasing smirk grew on his face.

Avril narrowed her eyes. She knew what that smirk meant. It meant that he had something up his sleeve, and she didn’t know what.

“Secret lover eh?” He teased, and Avril blushed bright red. “Aww, Av, you’re so cute when you’re blushing!”

Cause it's you and me and all other people
With nothing to do, nothing to prove
And it's you and me and all of the people and
I don't why I can't keep my eyes off you

“Whatever Ev. Let’s go to your room. I have more songs to show you.” She changed the subject hastily. Handing him his black acoustic, she grabbed another sunburst coloured guitar from the rack and headed up.

At the mention of her showing him her songs, Evan grew a little nervous, wondering if what he had been doing with them was right. After all, those were her songs, and he didn’t have her permission.

Setting himself and his guitar down on his bed next to Avril’s guitar, he watched her dig out something from her bag. Finally, she pulled out a few scraps of paper and her diary. She joined him on the bed.

“Yeah… so I showed you Complicated and Losing Grip and Unwanted, now here’s Naked, Sk8r Boi and I’m With You.” Avril smiled as she flipped to the respective pages and handed him the songs.

Something about you now
I can't quite figure out
Everything she does is beautiful
Everything she does is right

Evan smiled as he took the pages from her. His eyes ran through the lyrics, and he could see that most of them were about him. He looked up with a heartwarming smile.

“These are awesome Av, but what about that song you were singing just now? I could help you with it,” he told her.

Avril shook her head. “I wanted to see how far I can get on my own. You already helped me with the previous songs.”

Evan knew she could be stubborn and there was no use trying to argue with her, so he let it go. Instead, he reached for one of her songs and started aligning chords with them, making sure they sounded okay.

Cause it's you and me and all of the people
With nothing to do, nothing to lose
And it's you and me and all of the people and
I don't know why I can't keep my eyes off of

Avril smiled when Evan let it go, she didn’t want him to help her with everything. When he took up his guitar and started playing chords, she smiled and reached for his other one. An idea for a song popped into her head, and she reached for some pen and paper, and started writing.

A look into the room would only end up with peace. The perfect couple in the comfortable silence, working together easily. It was like the surface of a pond, calm, and always mirroring back what was looking into it. The calm before the storm.

You and me and all of the people
With nothing to do nothing to prove and
It's you and me and all of the people and
I don't why I can't keep my eyes off of you

“Ev, I’m hungry. What’s for dinner?” Avril pouted.

Evan took one look at her face, and found himself caving in. How could he say no at her face? He leaned over and pressed his lips to her gently, before pushing himself off the bed.

“Come on, let’s go to the kitchen and I’ll make pasta,” he said, holding out his hand. Avril grabbed it gratefully.

The pair made their way down to the kitchen, where Drew, Evan’s brother was rummaging the fridge.

“Hey Ev, Av. It’s dinnertime and there’s nothing to eat. Annie’s at a friend’s house so there’s no one to cook dinner…” Drew’s voice trailed off.

Evan rolled his eyes. “Fine Drew. I’ll have dinner ready in a while.” With that, Drew left.

“I swear, you’re a woman in a guy’s body, Ev,” Avril smiled, wrapping her arms around his waist.

Chapter 4- For You

~One month later~

Evan nervously knocked on Avril’s front door, anticipating her reaction to what he had done. In his hand was a large brown document, one that could change her life forever. But would she accept it? Would her stubbornness prevent her from seeing the future that she had right in front of her?

Before he had any time to wallow in his thoughts, the door swung open, revealing Avril’s bright and eager face. She swept Evan in a hug, and Evan smiled. Count on Avril to cheer him up. She stepped back into the house to let him in, before her eyes fell on the brown important looking document in Evan’s hands.

“What’s that you’re holding Ev?” Avril questioned, settling herself down on her couch. Her blue eyes stayed on the envelope, as if she could somehow see through it and read its contents.

Evan stationed himself next to her, and his shaking hands opened the envelope, pulling out a thick stack of what could be a disaster. Handing it to her, he sat back and awaited her explosion.

Her keen eyes scanned over the front page, flipping to the next, and the next, until she came to the last page. Evan thought she was beautiful, but when he told her that, she’d flatly deny that.

Looking up with shining eyes, Avril smiled.

“I got a record deal with Arista!” She whispered, not wanting to believe it. She was afraid that if she moved the slightest centimeter, the paper would shred to bits, along with her dreams. That if she made a sound louder than a whisper, the words would all just disappear, and all she would be left with was a useless piece blank paper. All her life she’d been dreaming about this moment. Where her dreams would finally come true, where her ticket out of this hell hole dangled just in her reach.

“But… how did this happen?” Avril asked, turning to Evan.

Here it came. Evan took a deep breath to explain.

“Well, you’ve been showing me your songs all along. I thought they were pretty good, so I showed them to a friend of mine. He showed them to someone working in Arista, and they decided to sign you. Are you angry at me?” He asked.

Avril thought he looked cute when he said the last sentence. Like a kitten who had done something to please its master, but wasn’t very sure of itself yet. “Why would I be angry?”

“Well… um, because I showed someone else your songs without your permission?”

“Oh Evan, I love you!” Avril gushed, the emotions which she had been holding back in the past few minutes finally coming out.

In the grace of your love I writhe, writhe in pain
In 666 ways I love you and I hope you feel the same

Evan was a little shocked at her sudden declaration but smiled. He enveloped her into his arms and pressed his lips to her own warm one.

“I love you too.” He murmured back. “I’ll love you forever, no matter what.”

Avril smiled and leaned her head on his shoulder, letting those last few words sink in. She wanted to remember them forever, wanted to take down every detail, how he said it, the tone of his voice, everything. It was the best thing anyone had ever said to her. But then again, Evan wasn’t anyone.

Avril shifted her lips up to his ear and whispered softly, letting her breath tickle him.

“I’m for you.”

I'm for you
I'm for you

With that, Evan pushed Avril back onto the sofa, his lips travelling her neck and shoulders. Avril moaned, weaving her hands through his long blonde hair. His gentle kisses rained down on her, like a light but pleasant shower. Giving her one last peck on the forehead, he sat up, grinning at her.

“That was great.” She smiled, and pulled herself into his lap.

Evan looked up at the clock, standing up. “Come on, it’s time to get to school.”

Avril laughed at how much he sounded like her father. She pulled herself to her feet and grabbed her bag before following Evan out the door.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “Hey, babe.” Avril turned around from standing in the library’s quiet aisles to see who it was. It couldn’t be Evan, because she’d recognize his voice. To her disgust, it was Brian, the popular guy in school.
Wrinkling her nose, she replied, “What do you want?”
“I was hoping you’d speak to me in a nicer tone. We are going to be seeing a lot of each other from now on.” He told her.
“We are?” Avril questioned, trying her hardest to get as far away from him as she could when he moved closer.
“Yes, we are.” With that, Brian brought a hand up to Avril’s cheek and caressed it. Avril wanted to move away, but the look in his eyes warned her to stay where she was.
“Listen carefully. You, the pathetic Avril Lavigne, are now my girlfriend. You’d better not be difficult, or else.”
“Or else what?” Avril challenged defiantly.
“Or else I’ll kick your precious Evan out of my clique. And he will be all sad and depressed, alone in that corner. Do you really want him to go through what you’ve gone through?”
Avril hesitated. Did she really want Evan to go through the pain she was forced to go through? She lowered her gaze to her converse, as if it could help her. It wasn’t very interesting to stare at, but at least it wouldn’t press her for an answer.
“So?”
“Okay.”
I'm killing myself for your love and again all is lost
In 777 ways I love you 'til my death do us apart
I'm for you - and I'm dying for your love
I'm for you - and my heaven is wherever you are
I'm for you - and I'm dying for your love
I'm for you - and my heaven is wherever you are
Avril never thought that one word spoken in a whisper could hurt her so badly.
“Good girl. Now, go tell Evan that you don’t think you and him will work out, and that you want a break up. Understand?” Brian instructed, speaking slowly, enjoying the look of pure horror on Avril’s face.
“Or… shall I go tell him for you?” He asked, when she did not reply.
“No! I’ll tell him myself.” Both ways were just as bad, she was breaking up with Evan. No more sweet dreams, not more sunshine and rainbows in her life. From now it she was left to face a bloody death by the dragon. But at least she could cushion the fall for Evan.
He gave a self satisfied grin and pressed his lips to her cheek, deciding not to take it too far just yet. He took a step back from her, and turned to walk away.
“Oh, and if you don’t tell him, I’ll know.” He said over his shoulder.
In 666 ways I love you and my heaven is wherever
you are
I'm here for you - I am here for you
I'm here for you - I am here for you
I'm here for you - I am here for you
I'm here for you - I am here for you
Song- For You By Him.
Chapter 5 - Sympathy
Stuck in her perfect fantasy world, Avril tried to get herself to believe that everything was fine. Brian wouldn’t know if she didn’t tell Evan, because he simply wasn’t Superman, or someone who could read other’s minds. For now she cut off all interaction with Evan, trying to figure out the right thing to do.
Stranger than your sympathy
And this is my apology
I killed myself from the inside out
And all my fears have pushed you out
Her sensible mind started to work out the pros and cons. If she told Evan, his heart would be broken and the worst thing was, he wouldn’t even know why they’d broken up. He deserved to know why, but she didn’t think she was allowed to tell him. Would this pain be equal to that of being the odd one out? All she knew was that the pain she’d gone through was terrible and she didn’t want anyone else to go through it. Anyone else that mattered to her.
And I wished for things that I don't need
(All I wanted)
And what I chased won't set me free
(It's all I wanted)
And I get scared but I'm not crawlin' on my knees
What more her one and only love.
What had gone wrong? One moment she had been the happiest girl in the world, with prospective career and the best guy in the world, the next she was on a road to no return. How was she ever going to get herself out of this mess without ripping the heart of the guy she loved most into shreds?
Oh, yeah
Every thing's all wrong, yeah
Every thing's all wrong, yeah
Where the hell did I think I was?
Her mind felt as if it was eating itself up. She kept pondering over her situation, something she always did. Maybe if she pondered enough, the problem would just solve itself and go away. Or maybe if she went back to her bed and hid under the covers, then the next day, everything would be alright again. A girl could dream.
She didn’t watch where she was going and tripped over someone’s foot. She fell straight into Evan’s arms.
“Are you alright, Av?” He asked her and a wave of guilt overwhelmed her. How could she bear to break the heart of a guy that was so caring?
“I’m fine.” She mumbled, wrenching herself from his grip and walking to her seat as quickly as she could.
And stranger than your sympathy
Take these things, so I don't feel
I'm killing myself from the inside out
And now my head's been filled with doubt
A frown creased over Evan’s brow. He couldn’t figure out what got under her skin when he usually could in a glance.
Avril sighed as she felt Evan’s questioning gaze on her back. ‘If only you knew,’ she thought.
“Still haven’t told him yet?” Brian whispered into her ear, sending a feeling of dread up her spine, differing a lot as compared to when Evan whispered in her ear.
“No.” Her reply was short and sharp, clearly conveying the message that she couldn’t be bothered with him.
“You’d better, you have until the day after tomorrow. And don’t tell him the reason why, or you’ll get it.” With that final threat, the time limit, Brian stalked off.
Avril sighed. It seemed as if her life was getting more and more difficult by the second.
Can I come over? I have something important to tell you. She sent the message to Evan and in a moment, his reply came. Sure.
We're taught to lead the life you choose
(All I wanted)
You know your love's run out on you
(All I wanted)
And you can't see when all your dreams aren't coming true
Standing nervously at Evan’s front door, she dreaded what was to come. She knew she had to tell him, to spare both of them the pain. Might as well quit when you’re ahead was an expression that could be used in this situation.
The door swung open a few seconds after she had pressed the doorbell and revealed Evan’s handsome form. He pulled her into a hug, which she returned. Their lips soon locked together and Avril was starting to forget the real reason as to why she came. Things were getting hot and heavy and Avril was doing nothing to stop them. In fact, if she could remember clearly, she was the one who’d initiated it. Evan pushed her down onto the dove gray bed.
Oh, yeah
It's easy to forget, yeah
When you choke on the regrets, yeah
Who the hell did I think I was?
“Av,” Evan panted as he drew her white tank over head. “Are you sure you want to do this?”
“Yes, I’m sure.” She answered before she stripped off his jeans.
Making love to Evan was perfect. She thought it was the perfect farewell present, and she didn’t want to give her first time to anyone else and certainly not Brian. She couldn’t trust him not to do anything she didn’t want like she could Evan.
Evan withdrew her underwear from her petite body and looked her over.
“You’re beautiful, Avril.” It was rare that he used her full name like that, but it was only when he was really serious. It was the last thing she heard before she closed her eyes and gave herself away to a land filled with rainbow colored horses and fluffy white clouds.
She woke up in Evan’s arms, wrapped in a pearl gray duvet. Happiness was hard to define, though, at that moment, Avril could have sworn that it was right in the room with them. It wasn’t very long before what she had to do came rushing back to her head. It was soon gone when Evan opened his eyes and drowned her in the blue depths of his eyes.
And stranger than your sympathy
And all these thoughts you stole from me
And I'm not sure where I belong
And now here's home and no more wrong
“Wow. Last night was…” He looked adorable as he tried to find the right word to describe it.
“Indescribable.” Avril finished for him and he rewarded her with the smile he saved only for her.
Avril gathered up her clothes and put them on while Evan made breakfast. Her tummy churning with nerves, she sat at the breakfast table, wondering how to phrase it so it wouldn’t hurt as much.
“Evan.” She said.
Evan turned and saw the serious look on her face. He sat across from her, looking into her eyes. “What is it?”
“It’s just... I don’t think we’ll work out.” She blurted out. She saw the effect immediately.
The bright light in his eyes was extinguished, like a burning cigarette that was snubbed into the ground. She could practically see his mind trying to work out the reason as to why she’d said that. Her heart ached. She would give anything to be somewhere else at that very moment, give anything to have avoided this.
And I was in love with things I tried to make believe I was
And I wouldn't be the one to kneel before the dreams I wanted
And all the dark and all the lies were all the empty things
Disguised as me
“Is this because of what Brian said to you yesterday?” Avril flinched as he came bearing down closely to the truth. She swallowed, her mouth like sawdust and spoke up to deny it. But Evan could always tell when she was lying. If he noticed it this time, he didn’t give any sign.
“Then why? Did you regret what we did last night?” He asked, speaking in that calm voice he always used to handle emergencies.
“No!” Avril said. She didn’t want him to think that she had seen something she didn’t like and that was why she was breaking up with him.
“It’s just… I can’t explain. All I know is that we won’t work out.” A thousand knives were stabbing into her heart when she said that, but she knew it was a thousand times worse for Evan. She couldn’t stand it. She was breaking his heart and her own at the same time. Silent tears ran down her cheeks and her eyes implored Evan to understand her.
Evan felt as if his heart were a pin cushion, of which a very angry person was stabbing pins into it as fast as they could. He took in her imploring eyes and anger exploded in him.
“I can’t believe you’d do this to me.” He said, pushing back his chair so hard that it fell over backwards.
“Ev, listen. I’m sorry.”
“No! Don’t fucking tell me you’re sorry after we’ve had sex and you tell me you want a break up. Sorry just doesn’t cover it.” His words stung like a wasp, over and over, never stopping.
Taking a step back, Avril took her last look at him. She’d never seen this side of him, only proving that everyone had a different side to them.
“I’m sorry.” She whispered to him.
Mmm, yeah
Stranger than your sympathy
Stranger than your sympathy
Mmm
As she ran out of his house, what Evan had said earlier kept echoing over and over in her head and refused to go away, like a broken down recorder. It seemed like a million years ago that he’d that. Oh, what she wouldn’t give to hear him say that again.
I’ll love you forever, no matter what.
This one might need some explaining. By odd food combinations, I mean two or more different foods that you eat together that you dont see most others eating.For example, I typically mix peas and mashed potatoes together, or put Parmesan cheese on broccoli. And quite a few times Ive seen people put ranch dressing on pizza.So, yeah, what odd food combinations do you eat?
This is a one shot spam fic. One shot means that a fic is only going to have one chapter. Spam fic means that it is a filler - with no real meaning whatsover. It is just for a bit of entertainment.THE CUTGenre: Suspense/HumorThe knife gleamed in her hand. She stood there in the kitchen, the sun shining in from the window. On her face was an evil smirk. The girl fondled the knife.Quite sharp, she thought. Itll make the perfect cutThen she put it near her hand. The girl hesitated, and blew a bang away from her face. With one quite breath, she put the knife to the skin. All was silent. Then came a tear off her cheek. She then cut again, this time deeper. More tears came down her cheek.Then she put down the knife, wiped the tears and then put the onion in the basket. She was finished for the day.-NormA/N: Hahaha didnt expect that did you?
