Hi people. I don't know if this forum's still active(I don't think it is) but oh well, I'll just go ahead and post my fic for any poor soul who wants to read it.
Odd One Out
Chapter One- Naked
The petite girl was a sight to behold. Her milky white skin had a contrast with the midnight dark environment of her room. More specifically, Evan’s room. He’d invited her over, then, being the scatterbrain he always was, forgot that he had to go out with Ashley, and he’d left her here alone. She did say that she would be okay, but of course she wouldn’t. She’d cast a wistful glance at Evan’s back, but he didn’t notice.
She was sitting on Evan’s bed, and she gathered her knees toward her chest in a fetal position. It made her feel safe, like she could hide away from the world in her own shell, unable to be hurt by anything, just safe. Her long blonde locks streaked with black hung down her small back, and aqua marine eyes stared blankly into the space of them room, wishing Evan were beside her. He could always cheer her up, even though she wasn’t in a bad mood, his soft touch would overtake her and make her fall into the most perfect daydream, even though perfection didn’t exist, not even in the wildest dreams.
Yeah I'm fadin
And I call out
No one hears me
Never been never felt never thought I'd say a word
Weighed down safe now
Tears ran down her cheeks, leaving trails of mascara running down her face. She didn’t care how she looked then, she never cared about what anyone thought of her. But lately, for Evan, she found herself dressing up for him, thinking whether he would like her outfit, and spending a bit more time deciding on what to wear, when she usually just threw on whatever she found first in her wardrobe. She didn’t know why she was crying, but she only knew that she wanted to be the one that went out with Evan, the one that he held and loved, the one that he cherished. Unfortunately, they were just friends. She was tired of hearing the phrase ‘just friends’, which was what either of them said when questioned about their relationship, whether by parents, or by any one else. Any one else that cared. But, as they say, the truth hurts, and that was all they were. Just friends.
You're naked inside your fear
You can't take back all those years
The shots in the dark from empty guns
Are never heard by anyone
Never heard by anyone
Here she was, crying her eyes out, while Evan was outside, enjoying himself probably. A scene of them kissing passionately while Evan ran his hands through her hair overtook her sense of logic, and she shut her eyes tightly, hoping to drive away the thoughts. They kept coming on harder and harder, and the kissing scene progressed into something more intimate, until she couldn’t stand it. Their voices were sounding in her head, and they wouldn’t go away.
Yeah I'm hiding
in the fallout
Now I'm wasted
They don't need me don't want me don't hear a word I say
Weighed down safe now
“Shut up and leave me alone!” She yelled, hugging her knees to her chest fiercely.
“I haven’t spoken yet,” a male voice came from behind her.
Shocked, Avril lifted her tearstained face and turned around, her eyes landing on Evan, even though she couldn’t really see him since it was so dark. She was thankful he couldn’t see how she looked then, with streams of eyeliner running down her cheeks.
Inside your head no one's there
And I don't think I'll ever be
And I don't care
“Av, what’s wrong? I heard you crying.” His gentle voice rang through the silence like the clear tone of a bell. Avril refused to answer him and closed her eyes again, quieting her sobs. But Evan refused to give up; he had to know what was bothering her.

He rested his hand on her shoulder. He placed his lean body on the bed beside her, and gathered up her small body into his comforting arms. She felt more like a child rather than an angst-struck teenager. He thought about how Ashley always wanted to make out and have sex when they were together, and whether their relationship was only made out of lust, not love.
Tightening his grip on Avril’s shivering body, he slowly lay down and pulled the scarlet red comforter over them, and placed a kiss on her forehead. She was peacefully sleeping, and even with the dried trails of make up on her cheeks, he thought she looked like the most beautiful woman on earth. He buried his face in her hair, and thought of how she smelled of pink peppermint, before he fell asleep.
Squinting against the bright sunlight filtering into her room, Avril fully opened her eyes and found that a pair of arms were locked tightly around her waist. She glanced at their owners’ face, and smiled. Her aqua eyes ran over his masculine features and ran her smooth finger over his cheek.
Pure blue eyes sprang open to meet hers. Both were perfectly comfortable in the others’ embrace and to be lying in the same bed, though they weren’t quite lovers. Yet. With the simple understanding both held for each other, each could sense what the other was thinking or feeling- they could easily be mistaken for lovers, and were more that ready to be lovers.
Just that they couldn’t accept it just yet. No words had to be spoken, just glance exchanged and they knew what the other wanted. Each could read the other like a book, the fruit of just a few weeks of friendship. The two had seen each other, clicked, and gained the title of two lone wolves in the class. Although one of them had popularity in the first place, his position in the cruel pecking order had dropped to second last. Right before her. Being besties with the newcomer wasn’t exactly approved of. Whether their friendship ended and blossomed into a sweet romance was yet to be determined.
They didn’t need anyone else. Just the two of them, in their own world, staring into the depths of each others eyes, communicating silently. It was the same as passing notes, but the message could never be intercepted by any outsider. But the world never lets you be happy and contented. Oh no, it wants you to be the exact opposite. Plunged into the depths of sorrows and plagued by disappointment that was harder to get rid of as compared to the stickiest glue. Avril only knew all too well how it was like to be ostracised. And because of her, Evan had to endure the pain too. But his heart wasn’t encased in a million shields like hers was. It wasn’t surrounded with layers and layers of ice that no fire would be able to penetrate. It was raw and red, vulnerable to any form of attack. Those shields around her heart were built up over the years of being taunted and bullied, where she learnt to show no emotion.
It hurt more than the most painful insect bite, more than the grazes on your knee when you fall. Because then, at least, those could be healed with time and medicine, and would sooner or later go away. And all that’s left to remind you of the pain you once endured is only a scar, one that goes mostly unnoticed. But it wasn’t like that. Avril despised school but the one thing she hated the most was project, or group work, or anything that required them to get into groups. There were always one or two people left out in the end, most of them the dorks. She didn’t want to be classified with them. With a hefty sigh from the teacher, he’d group together all of the outcasts, and Avril was left to try her best to make the whole thing work out. But due to the lack of cooperation, they usually got a bad grade. It got a lot easier when she learned how to stop caring. That was in her old school. Now, whenever they had to pick members for teams in sports, or groups for project work, she was still left out. It didn’t help that Evan still got accepted into groups readily. But it stopped hurting. A long time ago, when she stopped counting the number of wrongs everyone did her. It stopped hurting a long time ago.
The stinging pain and stabbing sensation, the roots of fear growing even deep when those dreaded words were heard, and to be standing alone in the middle of the room when everyone else was shifting their tables and chairs to be with their friends. The little cliques gathering everywhere, safe where they were. The hostile glares and humiliation when she asked politely to join a group and when she had to admit that she had no group. The feeling of being alone and not belonging, not fitting in. But worst of all was the look of despair on Evan’s face when he realised he could do nothing for her.
“Av, do you want to join?” No sooner were those six words out of Evan’s mouth, and evil eyes were shot his way. But before she could react, he grabbed her arm, his grip firm, as if he were pulling her up where she’d been hanging from the edge of a cliff. The next day, he showed up with a bruised cheek, which made feelings of guilt well up inside of her.
But recently, Evan had been accepted into one of the highest positions in the class once more and Avril was left ‘down there’, as they say. But that didn’t stop him from hanging out with her, even though he was looked upon with disapproval ever since.
“Odd one out again, huh Lavigne?” Brian, the so called leader of the popular group Evan was in, taunted her with a cruel smirk.
Rolling her eyes, Avril did her best to ignore him, dragging her chair to the group she was assigned to, steeling herself to get through the day, which coincidentally, was filled with project works everywhere, cliques in her face wherever she went. She wanted so bad to belong. To be accepted in a group, where her thoughts, speech, actions and most of all, her being, was wanted and accepted. And most of all, respected.
On the outside, she looked indifferent, her small body charging through every little class, staring into space while the teacher rambled on and on, looking as if she didn’t care whether she got scolded or not. But inside she was so tired. She wanted nothing more than to dive under her covers at home or just drop dead. But she couldn’t. She had Evan now, and she had to live for him. Every time she felt like she’d faint, she’d look at him, drawing strength and the courage to go on from him.
She felt as if he was watching over her every second, and he even made her stop cutting. In all her musings, she’d realised that she was ready to take her relationship with Evan to the next level, but she could help feeling a little bit doubtful. They had only known each other for only a few weeks, surely they couldn’t be ready? But she was prepared to trust him. What about Ashley? Evan couldn’t possibly love her. Avril tried to convince herself that Evan held only lust for Ashley, not love.
Avril’s thoughts whisked back to the present as the teacher announced that it was break time. Stifling a huge sigh, she grabbed her books and exited the classroom, stopping by her locker to deposit her books before making her way up to the library. She headed over to a secluded corner and made herself comfortable, pulling out her i pod, pushing the earphones into her ears. She closed her eyes and allowed the music to wash all over her. Music was her life, and she couldn’t live without it. Her current dilemma about whether she should confess her feelings to Evan popped up in her head again, and she sighed, trying to make it go away.
As if Evan was a genie that could be summoned up with her thoughts, he materialised in front or her, setting himself down next to her.
Evan could hear the loud music from Avril’s earphones. He felt butterflies in his stomach. He so badly wanted to tell her how he felt about her, but was he sure? And what about Ashley? What if she didn’t feel the same way about him?
“Hey Av.” He greeted softly, smiling at her. She returned the gesture, and moved over to lean her head on his shoulder softly, pausing her music and taking the earphone out.
“Uh, I have something to tell you.” They both said simultaneously. Avril and Evan both burst out into genuine laughter. Evan, being the gentleman he always was, demanded for Avril to go first, and much to her protest, she began.
“The thing is, Ev, from the time I met I’ve always felt like I’ve known you for about forever. I really like-” Her declaration was interrupted by someone quite unwelcome.
