On quitting school to follow her music dream:
When I was in grade 11, I got offered a record contract with Arista, and I wasn't going to turn it down because that's what I wanted to do all my life. It's been my dream and my goal, so I made the choice to leave school. My parents wanted me to do schoolwork on the road, but I don't have time. I'm not saying don't go to school or anything, but with this career and what I wanted in life, it wasn't like I needed it. Going to business class or whatever wasn't going to help me be able to sing better and write better.
How she feels about being called the next Alanis Morisette:
I don't like being compared to other artists, but it's going happen, and one day people will probably compare other people to me. I guess if I'm going to be compared to anyone I don't mind it being her, because I like her and she's, like, honest and real.
If she could write her own entry in a musical encyclopedia, it would say:
Something like "young-spirited energizer bunny." I'm an energizer battery — the bunny on the battery commercials.
If she could cast an actress in the story of her life, who it would be:
I'd pick Sandra Bullock because she's my favorite actress, and I think she's as hot as anything.
The person she'd most like to meet:
Now that I just mentioned Sandra Bullock, I think it'd be really awesome to meet her and get to hang out with her. And that dude that played Spider-Man [Tobey Maguire]. I think he's adorable — when I watched that movie, I fell in love with him.
How she felt about fitting in at high school:
High school is a weird place, because a lot of people don't want to accept you if you're not one of them — if you don't wear the clothes that are in, or [go to] the shops that everyone shops at, then you couldn't be in their group. I hated always wearing a cute little pair of bell-bottoms and a nice little shirt. I'm not comfortable in it, and that's what all the ordinary people wore. If I didn't wear that, they didn't want to talk to me.
On her style being anything but ordinary:
I want to be my own person and wear styles that people don't wear. I like to be original and wear ties, 'cause ties are supposed to be for boys.
Avril's message to girls:
Be yourself, and screw what everybody else thinks! Do what's comfortable and do what's you. You're just going to be happier in the end, because you're going to be true to yourself.
