i think its a negative thing and not a positive thing. it lists things it does such as make explorer freeze and thigns like that. there was also a threat of money in accounts and stuff like that. im on the internet in bt anytime at the moment so i'm not effected, but i would aprreciate some useful help.

I've had problems with spyware...I think everyone has. Download a program called Ad-Aware, it'll get rid of it.

Ad-aware isn't what I would recommend. It looks nice, but it really doesn't do much.
I suggest you using Spybot... it's simple, and catches alot.
Go Here: http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=mirrors
Remember to Update when running it
Pest Patrol is my favorite because it finds every f*cking thing, but then again, it deletes programs such as Kazaa and stuff (after all, Kazaa is hugeeeeeeeee spyware and adware).
So, if you got all this from a popup window on a website, interesting, cause it's called ads. Anyways, it's always good to have it :)
quit that

I get a lot of pop ups saying that you have spyware if your computer is doing these things, and it lists a bunch of things, and my computer has been affected by all of them.

if you use a better browser (ANYTING BUT INTERNET EXPLORER) you will see a dramatic cut in the amount of spyware you get!
i personally use firefox: http://mozilla.org/products/firefox/
its super fast, customizable and blocks pop ups for FREE

I use internet explorer and nothing else... except for the google toolbar :)
and if you get another browser, it won't affect how much spyware you have. The only thing it may do is block things such as Popups and Download Promts.
ie has so many security holes it isnt funny. update the patches all you want, there are new holes being produced everyday ;)
i run spybot & ad scanners weekly. the most i ever have is a tracking cookie ;)

That's because you're smart :) IE has nothing to do with spyware or adware.
As long as you don't install crap or accept GAIN/GATOR and stuff, you will be ok. Trust me, anybody can get spyware through Mozilla or Firebird or Opera.
(GAIN/GATOR: http://pcpitstop.com/images/gator/gator-driveby.gif )
i never see those things.
ie in itself doenst have anything to do with spyware, but if you surf strange sites regurally its a severe security risk.
i also forgot to mention the HOSTS file!
read up on this, another reason i never have any probs ;) http://accs-net.com/hosts/
SOME sites you may need to edit, for instance, if your site uses a particular tracker to record your hits, you may have to edit a few entries out. everything is answered on that site though

I never have any problems either.... I use Pest patrol, Adaware, and Spybot...
I like PP the best :)
i've never heard of pest patrol. im always scared to try stuff that isn't widely known among the nerd communities i frequent.. a lot of "spyware killers" have been known to actually give you spyware

Lol... yeah. Well Pest Patrol finds SO many more things and they have a whole database on their site about every known pest and how to manually remove it :)
It's a great program... No spyware lol.
