Avril Lavigne's 'Let Go' Climbs To Number Four

(7/5/02, 12 p.m. ET) -- Avril Lavigne's debut album, Let Go, has once again inched up the Billboard 200 chart. The effort can now be found at Number Four, its peak position during its four weeks on the listing, thanks to sales of more than 112,000 copies in the period, according to sources.
Only hip-hop releases performed better than Lavigne this week--Nelly's Nellyville, which debuted at Number One, and runners-up Eminem's The Eminem Show and N.O.R.E.'s God's Favorite.
After a surprise debut at Number Eight in June, Let Go has yet to fall from the top 10. It slipped to 10 in its second week but rose to Number Five last week.
Lavigne's success is due in large part to the single "Complicated," which can be found at Number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and at Number Five on the publication's Adult Top 40.
The video too has been drawing fans to Lavigne. In it, the teen singer-songwriter and her band not only wreak havoc in a shopping mall but can also be found performing at a skate park as kids cut tricks around them. The shoot wasn't a huge departure for Lavigne, who can frequently be found at the nearest skate park practicing her own moves when free time allows.
Lavigne explains, "I can ollie and sort of grind. I suck, but, I mean, I'm not pro. But I just like doing it. It's fun."
She adds that a little pain is not such a bad thing. "I like wiping out and hurting myself and crying. And I like to show off my bruises. And, me and the guys just like to mess around on them, even though we all suck."
Lavigne performs at the Monarch in London on July 9.
