Put simply, Windows XP has become the retarded, over-protective parent of my computer since the recent update.

Discuss.

I think you're right...I haven't noticed too many changes yet, but this window pops up every once in a while saying something about a possible virus...sigh. What kinds of things have changed on your computer?

Basically, it slowed everything down .5x. It opens a warning window everytime I go to a webpage not in the history, and lectures me on how I should sync my antivirus program with windows. ...I'd like to ultimately open up this thread to discussions of operating systems and their advantages and disadvantages.

Are you talking about SP2? Just disable the security center

I think certain things like that can be modified in the settings, if you're logged in as an administrator that is. I haven't notised much difference myself when I got XP... except maybe that one time when it asked if i wanted to clear my desktop from icons i rarely ever used.

And you, sir, are an "insultment" to the English language.

I like my XP. Got it when I got this computer, before that I had Windows 98 on the old one. Slow piece of crap - but that's because my brother loaded it with all kinds of useless shit. No problems with this machine or OS at all, but currently my antivirus is being a pain in the ass slacker. May have to check up on the subscription.

I have to think that XP is the most patronising OS.

"Hmm? What's that you want? Control Panel? Oh, you don't need to see that. Just tell me what you want to do. No, seriously. I'm not going to show you the full menu. That would just be silly. I... *sigh*... oh, alright then. But you really should have let me do that for you. Now. C:Program Files. This folder contains files that help your computer run properly. No, you don't need to look at them. No, really, you don't. You're not intelligent enough to tamper with them, you might break the computer. What's that you say? You've got a degree in Computer Science? Oh, alright, you can have a peek. Now, are you sure you want to delete that? Are you absolutely sure? It's an EXE file, you know. That means it runs things. That means if you delete it you might not be able to run things. Oh, all right, I'll delete it. I'll just put it in the recycle bin for you, shall I? That way, in case you realise you've made a mistake, you can get it back..."

I hate my XP. I had Millenium before, but got the XP a few months after I got this computer. As soon as XP was installed, the second I log back on, the piece of shit gets 5 viruses in a row! I didn't even get the chance to get any updates done or anything. <_<

Sounds like XP is made for users who are not computer literate.

I'm unbelievably computer-stupid/illiterate, which could be why I like my XP so much.

Plus, it's pretty.

Because operating system has that much to do with how fast your computer and/or internet is.

Yep, my computer is kinda like that the first day after I reformat.

@Belle: LMAO. Don't go blaming that on XP  Windows ME is the worst OS out there.

Oh, it does my friend, so much so you don't even know.

Which brings up the interesting, but worthless fact, that the speed of your character in Diablo II is based on OS, and your computer's top speed.

I have Windows ME. At this point, I'd give my left testicle for XP. Possibly both.

What's it like without XP? I don't even remember life without it. Is that weird?

I remember 3.1. Now that was crappy.

Oh man, nothing beat 3.1, except maybe 1.1, because that was amazing.
