Okay Bebe and I decided to write another story together seeing as how we thoroughly enjoyed working together last time. Well yeah enough of me rambling here's the story.....
Chapter 1
"Avril, Evan, we have to leave in five minutes. We can’t be late again. You both better hurry up," Shauna yelled as she banged on hotel room doors. Avril and the guys were in New York City to do a little bit of promotion for her sophomore effort, Under My Skin. As it was, Avril and Evan were 15 minutes behind schedule. Ten minutes later Avril and Evan each stumbled out of the respective rooms. They had to go and perform Avril’s soon to be released third single, "Nobody’s Home" on The View. The group slowly made their way out of the hotel and into the van waiting to bring them over to the studio.
"Av, we need to talk," Evan said once he and Avril were seated next to each other. "This is really important."
"Ok what is it?" Avril asked with a smile on her face. It would be a good day she thought. First a performance with Evan, one of her best friends, and then she would be spending the afternoon with her boyfriend of 8 months, Deryck Whibley of Sum 41. To cap off the evening she would be performing at a Fashion Rocks concert with one of her favorite musicians, Johnny Reznick of the Goo Goo Dolls.
"Well I really don’t know how to say this, but after Letterman and that Maxim show tomorrow night, I’m gonna be ---," Evan started tentatively before he was rudely interrupted by Avril’s cell phone.
"Hold on, one sec, Ev," Avril said putting up one finger while she pulled her phone out of her pocket. "Hello? Oh hey Deryck. What’s up?" Upon hearing the mention of his name Evan rolled his eyes. He should have known. Every time wanted to tell Avril something Deryck interrupted him. "Yeah we just have one little performance and then I’m free to spend the whole afternoon with you," Avril said with a smile. "Alright, yeah as soon as I get back to my room I’ll call you, I promise. Ok I love you too, bye."
"Alright, we’re here. Let’s go we’re already late," Shauna said to the duo as she got herself out of the van.
"Ok ok we’re comin," Avril replied, "Oh wait, Ev, what was that you were saying was like important or whatever?"
"Oh it’s nothing really. I just thought you should know tomorrow’s my last day." Evan stated before getting out of the van and walking away leaving Avril sitting in the van, all alone and completely shocked. She got out of the van and ran to catch up with him. She had to have heard him wrong. He wouldn’t leave her. He’s Evan. She’s Avril. They’re Evan and Avril, best friends. He couldn’t just bail on her like that could he?
"What do you mean your leaving?" Avril asked him when she finally caught up.
"Did I stutter? Tomorrow is my last day in your band, after that I’m leaving."
"It’s so sudden. You know you don’t really wanna leave. You’re my best friend."
"Oh really?" Evan said sarcastically before brushing Avril off and hurrying inside to start soundcheck. He didn’t want it to go like that. It wasn’t supposed to go like that. It was supposed to just be him calmly explaining that he has to do his own thing and that he was still thinking about whether or not he was going to do the tour. He just got so pissed at her sometimes. Couldn’t she see that he couldn’t stand her being with Deryck? Well it was too late now, no going back. He just had to wait out these last 2 days and then he was out on his own.
"I can’t believe he’s really going," Avril said to Shauna once they had finished soundcheck.
"Yeah, he’s not happy here and you know that. He wants to do his own thing. He has to do his own thing to be happy."
"Yeah but 2 days notice? Isn’t that sudden?"
"I’ve known for a while. He never renewed his contract, which ends tomorrow. He was still contemplating about the tour, but I guess he made up his mind. His replacement is going with you guys tonight."
Staring at the audience with a vague look in her eyes, Avril tried not to show the fact that tears would spill out of her eyes any second. She couldn’t believe that Evan had just told her.. just like that. He didn’t try to tell her privately, he didn’t try to make it better for her. He just flat out told her. She was still in shock. He was leaving.. so soon. Not in a year, not in six months, but in two days. Her head would subconsciously turn to the left, but then she would have to try and look forward, to try and not look at Evan. It just hurt her too much…
Evan looked at his guitar, trying to be interested in the music. It wasn’t working. He couldn’t help stop thinking about Avril. He knew that he shouldn’t have blurted it out as he had, but what else could he say? It was the truth, and no matter how he got it out, it still stood true. He was going to leave.
"Hey babe, what’s up," Deryck approached Avril as she got ready to step inside her hotel room.
Sighing to herself, Avril tried to gain a sense of control on her feelings and not show how she was feeling. Pressing a fake smile to her lips, she turned to him and replied, "Nothing much."
They stepped inside and walked to sit on the couch. "I missed you." He whispered into her ear.
"Me too," she barely got out. She didn’t want to talk to him at the moment, her mind was focused on Evan. Was he in his hotel room right now? Was he packing? She needed to talk to him before their performance that night, but that was going to be difficult with Deryck around her.
"… so I’ll be leaving and Devin will be replacing me." Evan finished telling the guys about his departure. He looked down at the ground, not wanting to stare at them in the face for some reason.
"Good luck man. We know you’ll do well." Matt approached him to give him a hug and the rest followed. They all agreed to party together after the Maxim party and enjoy the time they had left with him.
Avril quickly said good bye to Deryck and rushed towards Evan’s room. Knocking on his door impatiently, she shifted her weight from her left to her right foot. After five minutes of knocking hadn’t resulted in him opening the door, she stopped. "Damnit," she thought to herself. "Where is he?"
Evan remembered that he needed to get his hat from his room so after leaving Craig’s room, he turned the corner and walked over to his. When he began approaching the door he saw a familiar face. Avril. His body now tensing up, he nodded to her, acknowledging her presence, but said nothing.
